Doug started his engraving carrier long before he new he would be interested in engraving. At a very early age long before he even knew what rodeo was he was helping Skip in the saddle shop learning skills that would help him learn engraving. By the time Doug started competing in the steer riding events he was building chaps, bridles and stamping the saddles and belts for his father to help pay for his entry fees.

Doug got interested in building and engraving the silver trim for the western pleasure show saddles his father was building. Soon it was not long Doug was building trophy buckles for the rodeos and bull riding events and won the buckle he built for the California Cowboys Rodeo Associations Bull Riding Champion in 1987. During this time Doug also was woking and studying the art of lost wax casting in silver and gold under a master jewler.

When Doug moved to Texas in 1996 he started learning the art of gun and knife engraving and is an active member of the Texas Knife Collectors Association.
